Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Who Could Resist This?
Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure
Don’t be fooled by the fact that Gu Mo is only a year and a half old—his pronunciation is already incredibly clear when he speaks. That thick, milky baby voice, paired with his serious tone, could melt anyone’s heart.
Chen Qiaoqin looked at Gu Mo with a beaming smile. “Dai Bao, do you know what a little fairy is?”
Gu Mo nodded. “Someone who can do magic—that’s a little fairy.”
Chen Qiaoqin was taken aback for a moment by his answer, but then she burst out laughing. Clearly, Gu Mo must have heard plenty of Journey to the West stories!
Yu Nuannuan glanced at Gu Mo, then at Chen Qiaoqin, and blew a little bubble. She couldn’t talk yet, but it didn’t matter—these two had already come up with a name and backstory for her supernatural ability.
Chen Qiaoqin brought over a bowl of rice porridge. She’d simmered it for a long time, so the rice was soft and broken down, with a thick, fragrant layer of rice oil on top. Ever since Yu Nuannuan stopped breastfeeding, she drank this every day, so it was always kept ready at home.
Gu Mo wasn’t actually hungry, so when Chen Qiaoqin tried to feed him with a spoon, he didn’t open his mouth.
Seeing this, Chen Qiaoqin was a bit puzzled. “Dai Bao, why aren’t you eating? You were just swallowing hungrily a moment ago—how come you don’t want it now?”
Having seen Gu Mo eat chives before, Yu Nuannuan more or less understood what was going on. Since Gu Mo didn’t want to eat, Yu Nuannuan let out a couple of “ah ah” sounds at Chen Qiaoqin. She really was getting a bit hungry!
In the end, more than half the bowl of porridge ended up in Yu Nuannuan’s belly, making her little tummy round and full.
Yu Nuannuan was only wearing a little dudou on top and a pair of shorts on the bottom. Now, her round belly was pushing the dudou up, making her look both funny and adorable.
In Sanliqiao, it wasn’t just half-year-old babies—even toddlers of one, two, three, or four would run around outside with bare bottoms. Chen Qiaoqin had originally wanted Yu Nuannuan to go bare-bottomed too. It was hot in the summer, and with Yu Nuannuan being so chubby, keeping her wrapped up would easily give her heat rash.
But Yu Nuannuan wouldn’t have it. If she wasn’t dressed properly, she’d cry at the top of her lungs, turning her soft, fair little face bright red from crying.
Who could possibly resist that?
There was nothing for it—even indoors, Chen Qiaoqin had to dress Yu Nuannuan in little shirts and shorts.
Looking at Yu Nuannuan, then at Gu Mo, who was also wearing a little shirt and shorts, Chen Qiaoqin couldn’t help but laugh. “You two really are alike.”
They were both small, but equally smart and particular.
Around noon, everyone from the Yu family who’d been working in the fields came back. Harvesting was important, but you still had to eat, didn’t you?
Xu Shuhua came back, washed her hands and face, and immediately went to pick up Yu Nuannuan. Her face was sunburned red, but she was all smiles. “Nuan Bao! My sweet Nuan Bao! Did you miss Grandma?”
With Xu Shuhua watching over Nuan Bao, Chen Qiaoqin stood up. “Mom, you play with Nuan Bao. I’ll go help with the cooking.”
The whole family had agreed that Chen Qiaoqin wouldn’t go to the fields—Xu Shuhua had made the final call. After all, Nuan Bao was still too little and needed someone to look after her.
But Chen Qiaoqin wasn’t someone who’d just take advantage. If she didn’t have to work in the fields and didn’t help with the cooking either, even the nicest three sisters-in-law would start to have opinions.
Xu Shuhua didn’t even look at Chen Qiaoqin, just kept nodding. “Go on, go on! I’ll watch Nuan Bao!”
Seeing that Xu Shuhua’s eyes never left Yu Nuannuan, Chen Qiaoqin couldn’t help but remind her, “Mom, don’t forget to keep an eye on Dai Bao too.”
Only then did Xu Shuhua look up at Dai Bao, who was sitting on the bed, and she smiled as well. “Dai Bao really is such a good kid.”
(Vote for me, babies!)"
