Chapter 14: Chapter 14: So Biased It’s Ridiculous

Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure

Yu Nuannuan couldn’t help but grin when she heard what Xu Shuhua said.

So “well-behaved,” huh? Wasn’t that just a nice way of saying Gu Mo was basically invisible?

As soon as Chen Qiaoqin headed into the kitchen, Qin Yuelan hurried in, flustered and out of breath.

She’d just come back from working in the fields, her face sunburned and covered in sweat.

“Auntie, thank you so much. Dabao didn’t cause any trouble, did he?”

“Trouble? What trouble? In our whole village, apart from Nuanbao, Dabao is the best-behaved kid around!”

Yu Nuannuan felt a little embarrassed at that.

Her grandma really did love her—couldn’t even praise someone else without sneaking in a compliment for her.

Ever since Yu Nuannuan was born, everyone in Sanliqiao knew that Xu Shuhua was completely satisfied now that she had a granddaughter. She couldn’t go three sentences without bragging about Yu Nuannuan, so no one thought much of it when she said things like this.

“I’ll just take Dabao home now, Auntie. Don’t let me keep you!”

Qin Yuelan picked Gu Mo up from the bed, and the two of them walked out hand in hand.

Xu Shuhua stood at the door, watching the pair—one big, one small—until they disappeared through the gate, then finally let out a sigh.

Yu Nuannuan knew exactly why Xu Shuhua was sighing.

She might be young, but the adults never bothered to avoid talking in front of her, so she’d picked up plenty of gossip.

Gu Mo’s father, Gu Jianguo, was only a year younger than Yu Hai, but he was the eldest son in the Gu family. He had a younger brother, Gu Jiandong, who was two years younger than him.

Gu Jianguo had come back to farm after graduating middle school, and over the years had become a pretty skilled farmer.

Gu Jiandong was different—he’d gone to high school, but after graduating last year, he didn’t get into college and was now just hanging around at home.

Logically, at nineteen, Gu Jiandong was young and strong—right in his prime for farm work. It was the busy season, and he was at home with nothing to do, so he should have been out in the fields helping. But he refused to go.

Not only did Gu Jiandong not want to work, but his parents didn’t want him to, either.

The Gu family didn’t have many people. With Gu Jiandong refusing to help, Qin Yuelan had no choice but to go out to the fields herself.

And that wasn’t all—Gu Jiandong not only wouldn’t help with the farm work, he wouldn’t help look after Gu Mo, either. With no other options, Qin Yuelan had to bring Gu Mo over to the Yu family and ask Chen Qiaoqin to watch him.

The old couple from the Gu family did go out to the fields, but the real burden still fell on Qin Yuelan and Gu Jianguo.

Just look—Qin Yuelan had been working in the fields all morning, and now, before she’d even had a sip of water, she had to rush home and make lunch.

Yu Nuannuan was still thinking about all this when she heard the loud voice of Gu family’s old lady, Wang Dilai, coming from next door.

“You’re back, so why aren’t you making lunch? Where’d you run off to?”

“Picking up Dabao? What for? It’s just a few steps—he can’t come home by himself?”

“I’ve been working in the fields all morning, and I come back to not even a sip of water, still starving. What kind of daughter-in-law are you? Even making a meal, you need your mother-in-law to nag you three times?”

“What are you standing there for? Get in the kitchen and cook! Or are you waiting for me to do it?”

Listening to Wang Dilai’s voice getting louder and louder, Yu Nuannuan frowned.

That old lady was really something else. She’d worked all morning, but hadn’t Qin Yuelan done the same?

Why didn’t she scold Gu Jiandong? He never worked in the fields, couldn’t even be bothered to boil water.

Talk about being so biased it’s ridiculous!

Xu Shuhua happened to look down and saw Yu Nuannuan’s little brows knitted tightly together. Her heart ached at the sight. “What’s wrong, Nuanbao? Your eyebrows are about to tie themselves in a knot! Is all that noise bothering you? I’ll go scold her for you! She never stops yelling, not even for a minute!”

(Begging for votes again!)"
