Chapter 75: The Villa's Traps Shine
I Farm In The Apocalypse
What does it feel like?
As Jing Shu felt her body react—pores opening, heart racing, body heating up—she realized that unlike before, this time, she was not just excited; she was bloodthirsty, eager to personally snap their necks.
"There's no running now, they're here. Grandma, Mom, Aunt, and Cousin, just stay in the living room and sit tight. Remember the traps Dad and I set up last time? They won't be able to get in, so relax."
Jing Mum clung desperately to Jing Shu's arm, tears streaming down her face, "No, you can't go outside! It's too dangerous out there, I don’t want you to end up like Wang Xue Mei..."
Jing Dad stood firm, "If anyone wants to harm you, they’ll have to step over my dead body first!"
Seeing her mother so frightened and desperate, Jing Shu's fists clenched tighter, mentally setting up several deadly scenarios for those outside.
"Mom, I need to go get something."
Jing Shu quickly ran upstairs, returning almost immediately with a crossbow, arrows, and a gun. Distributing the crossbows and arrows to each family member, she holstered the gun at her waist.
"Let's go, I’ll explain everything when we have time. I never thought we’d actually need to use these things. Dad will show you how to use the crossbows."
Jing Shu led her bewildered family to the yard of the villa. Since her family was so resistant and fearful, she thought it better they see and handle weapons themselves rather than cower inside. Everyone’s first time facing such a situation was tough, but this new world demanded toughness.
In the yard, Jing Shu fitted The Fat Chicken with a custom-made stainless steel helmet, equipped with a 15-cm spike and a blood groove to ensure a fatal strike if necessary. Wu You Ai watched with fascination, perhaps plotting its potential uses.
"Mom, you guys just stay here, don’t move forward; all the dangerous traps are in front of you. If someone gets through, I’ll shout and then you shoot towards the door. Grandpa and I will be in the chicken coop controlling the traps."
Jing Mum’s hands trembled non-stop, but she eventually pulled out her phone, "I’m going to call Minister Niu; he must have connections to send the police."
...
The voices of the invaders grew louder, now just outside, laughing boisterously and talking loudly. Jing Shu watched through the infrared camera on her phone, coordinating positions with Grandpa. They knew exactly where each trap was triggered.
"Let's hop over the fence, it’s quicker," suggested one intruder.
"Yeah, grab your gear. After this, we’ll eat like kings! Move, from the fence straight to breaking down the door!"
As they prepared to breach the premises, Jing Shu’s traps awaited activation.
The trap: a simple wooden cover over a deep pit just past the fence, unnoticed by the invaders. As they crossed, several fell straight through to the spikes Jing Shu had secretly planted below.
"Only eight fell in, but it’s a start," Jing Shu counted, keeping an eye on the situation outside.
They tried to rescue those in the pits, but the tightly packed wooden covers and the sharp stakes in the pits made extraction almost impossible.
"Around the villa’s wall! Look for another entry, but be cautious!" commanded their leader, suspicious of the seemingly cursed villa.
Finding the main gate clear of traps, they prepared to break through.
"The main door, get it open!" ordered one, wielding a professional tool.
The sound of the lock giving way was clear, and with a forceful kick, the door swung open.
"Charge! Keep the women, kill all the men!" shouted their leader from behind, the rest rushing in.
As the first invaders crossed the threshold, they were ensnared by hidden wires triggering the traps Jing Shu had set up. One by one, they fell in a domino effect, sprawling on top of each other.
A successful activation of the traps led to chaos among the attackers, thwarting their initial assault.
