Chapter 10: He Really Is a Little Smarty

Big Boss Builds Infrastructure in the Interstellar Era

[There’s nothing I can do about it. You can’t just have top-tier features in a game whenever you want. I’m sure everyone understands how tough it is starting a business from scratch. And with the spirit coins and wood you provided, Host, this is the best I could make. There’s really nothing more I can do.

But please rest assured, Host, our game has principles. If we say it’s sturdy, then it’s sturdy. Sure, it’s drafty and shabby, but it won’t collapse.

However, if you really can’t stand how plain it looks, I’d suggest you spend five spirit coins to spruce up the exterior. The game can remodel it into a cute little forest cabin, complete with morning glory vines twining around it~~

So, Host, would you like to do that? Special startup price—just five spirit coins.]

The mechanical voice was thick with temptation, its sales pitch even more heartfelt and persuasive than before.

But Yun Qimu stood firm: “…No, no need. I think you’re absolutely right, Main Brain. Things are tough in the early stages of a startup, and I really shouldn’t be too picky. It doesn’t matter if the cabin doesn’t look good; what matters is that it’s sturdy. I spent spirit coins for its features, not its looks. Who cares what it looks like?”

The Main Brain replied dryly: […Yes, Host, you’re really open-minded.]

Privately, the Main Brain grumbled: Damn it, aren’t pretty girls supposed to like beautiful things? Even my super considerate, unbeatable sales pitch couldn’t sway her. Fine, woman, you’ve definitely caught my attention now.

I can tell at a glance—we’re both cheapskates!

Yun Qimu’s lips twisted in a forced smile, cursing the stingy Main Brain in her heart for being so cheap and inhuman.

“Dai Mu, is this the little cabin you mentioned? Are you sure it won’t fall down?” Yun Xiaoyu toddled over on his short legs, tugged at Yun Qimu’s sleeve, and shot a suspicious look at the cabin. “It looks like it’s about to collapse even without any berserk beasts attacking. Did your ability break?”

“It didn’t break.” Yun Qimu managed a strained smile, swallowing her curses for the damn Main Brain, racking her brain for an explanation.

“Uh, maybe, probably, it’s just that my ability level is still too low, so it turned out a bit shabby. But don’t worry, kiddo, its core feature hasn’t changed—it’s still really sturdy. You can sleep soundly tonight, no problem.”

Yun Xiaoyu’s little face scrunched up, his eyes still full of doubt. But seeing his silly big sister’s face on the verge of tears, the little man balled his fists and decided to be forgiving.

He nodded his little head, bit his baby teeth together, and, with a big heart in his small body, said, “Okay, I believe you.”

Phew!

Yun Qimu immediately breathed a sigh of relief. Her little brother really was the cutest.

After all that fuss, the already dim, gray sky of the Exile Star grew even darker, until you could barely see anything ten steps away.

Yun Qimu picked up her suitcase and led her two “kids”—one big, one small—toward the cabin. “It’s getting late. Let’s get some rest early. Nights on the Exile Star aren’t safe.”

“Mm-hmm.” Yun Xiaoyu gripped Daddy Yun’s hand tightly, glanced at the dark, chilly sky outside, then at the shabby little cabin, and, surprisingly, felt a bit safer.

“Oh, what about that evil maid? Won’t the blood on her attract berserk beasts?” As soon as his little foot stepped over the threshold, Yun Xiaoyu turned his worried little head to look outside.

Yun Qimu’s eyes flickered, and she replied calmly, “Just let her stay outside. Whether she lives or dies is up to her luck.”

From the moment she tore off the maid’s arms, death had already been the maid’s fate. She’d only spared her for the sake of protecting her little brother’s young mind. As for whether the blood would attract berserk beasts and whether she’d be gnawed to the bone, well…

A sly glint flashed in her eyes.

The Main Brain seemed very interested in the corpse. She figured she’d at least leave it mostly intact—well, except for the two arms she’d already ripped off, so not exactly “intact.”

“Oh.” Yun Xiaoyu didn’t pay much attention after hearing that. He blinked his big eyes and looked inside the cabin, his mouth falling open in surprise.

The inside of the cabin was unexpectedly cozy.

A large, transparent square lamp hung from the center of the ceiling, glowing with a warm orange light.

If you looked closely, you’d see little bugs flying around inside, emitting that orange glow and lighting up the whole living room.

That’s right—a living room.

This little cabin actually had a one-bedroom, one-living-room, one-kitchen, one-bath layout.

The bedroom had a wooden plank bed just big enough for two adults if they squeezed together.

Yep, just a plank bed, with a warm orange lamp on the headboard, just like the one in the living room.

The living room had a low table and three low chairs—not burned or rotten, surprisingly, and even with rounded corners for safety.

The kitchen had only a small clay stove and a little sink. There were no pots, pans, or bowls, but when she turned on the tap, clean water actually came out.

And the little bathroom had a washbasin, an automatic toilet, and a showerhead—the standard three fixtures. Of course, they were all made of wood, but each had a mysterious protective coating on the outside, smooth to the touch and seemingly rot-proof.

All in all, Yun Qimu was shocked. The damn Main Brain actually did something right for once—her fifty spirit coins weren’t wasted after all.

Yun Xiaoyu pattered around on his little feet, from the bedroom to the living room, to the kitchen, and then to the bathroom, his little face flushed with excitement. “Dai Mu, your ability really isn’t broken, but…”

He glanced hesitantly toward the bedroom. “There’s only one bed. How are the three of us going to sleep?”

Yun Qimu sighed, glancing at her empty pink suitcase, her eyes dim. “We didn’t bring any blankets. Otherwise, we could have just slept on the floor.”

Speaking of which, the damn Main Brain had done something right again—the floor of the cabin was actually covered with floorboards. They were thin, but tightly fitted, with a special protective coating, looking clean and tidy. It would’ve been no problem to sleep anywhere on the floor—if only they had blankets.

Suddenly, Yun Xiaoyu’s eyes lit up. He raised his little hand high. “I—I—I brought some!”

Then, Yun Xiaoyu pulled out a pendant from his collar that looked like a longevity lock.

Yun Qimu’s eyes sharpened, her powerful mental sense instantly recognizing it as a spatial button.

Spatial buttons were expensive and had limited space, but they were rare treasures, usually owned only by the wealthiest nobles.

The Yun family were nobles in Kimberley, but Daddy Yun, though a Yun, was the least favored second son, with limited wealth and power. Of their family of five, only Daddy Yun and eldest brother Yun Qichen had one.

So the question was—where did little Yun get his spatial button?"
