Chapter 104: My Head Is Buzzing
Wild and Dashing in the 80s
The two of them watched in shock as Su Qinghu crossed the bridge, dashed to the other side, turned a corner, grabbed a medium-built man, and threw him over her shoulder, slamming him to the ground. She then started punching and kicking him, leaving their jaws practically on the floor.
After so many years at the newspaper, Yuan Hang and Sister Li’s reflexes were still sharp. Without thinking, they rushed over.
As they ran out, the young waiter froze for a moment, then chased after them, shouting for them to pay the bill.
“What’s going on?” Yuan Hang yanked Su Qinghu off the man she was beating, pinning one knee into the man’s back. “Is this guy a thief?”
Su Qinghu had just unleashed a burst of energy and was now panting, her throat feeling like it was on fire. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a little girl peeking around the corner, watching them. She changed her tune, “This… this guy tried to kidnap a child.”
“You’re talking nonsense!” The man, pinned and unable to move, struggled and shouted, “What proof do you have?!”
“Proof?” Su Qinghu kicked him hard. “I’ll give you proof!”
Right after her kick, two men and a woman suddenly appeared out of nowhere, charging at them aggressively. Sister Li hurriedly warned them.
Yuan Hang gritted his teeth, keeping one foot on the man, and called to Su Qinghu, “I’ll hold him down, you two call the police!”
Su Qinghu rolled her shoulders, sneered, and clenched her fists at her sides without looking back. “Sister Li, go call the police.”
Seeing that Su Qinghu wasn’t budging, Sister Li took off running, but was immediately blocked by someone and had no choice but to retreat.
Su Qinghu said, “Sister Li, you hold down this bastard! Leave the rest to Yuan Hang and me.”
Yuan Hang was on the verge of tears. “Leave what to me? I can’t fight!”
He was a man of letters. He looked strong, but that was just from running around on assignments—he only knew one move: the low blow.
As the attackers closed in, Su Qinghu didn’t have time to explain. She stepped forward, side-kicked, axe-kicked, punched, chopped, pushed, and dodged with agility, taking down the first man who charged at them.
As soon as she finished, she shouted, “Sister Li, quick! Heavy press!”
Sister Li was stunned for a moment, glanced at herself—she was barely over ninety pounds! Still, she bent her legs and knelt on the man’s back.
Su Qinghu was most wary of the woman. When women fight, it’s never about technique…
She had long hair and was afraid the woman would grab her curls or scratch her face.
Taking a deep breath, Su Qinghu said solemnly, “Let’s make a deal—can we fight a little more gracefully?”
“Pfft!” Yuan Hang couldn’t help but laugh. The next second, he took a hit to the stomach and was immediately at a disadvantage.
Before the woman could respond, a group of uniformed officers arrived and pinned down her and her accomplices.
Listening to the police shouting warnings at the four people, Su Qinghu was stunned.
No way—she’d just beaten up some thugs, and ended up running into a police operation against human traffickers?
The officers saluted Su Qinghu and the others, thanked them with a smile, and explained the situation.
Only then did Su Qinghu learn that, after the economic reforms, population movement had increased, and since ID cards weren’t yet fully implemented, it was hard to manage, leading to a rise in crime—human trafficking among them.
They’d already been watching these men, but hadn’t acted because they were waiting for the key female suspect.
Su Qinghu blinked, then blinked again, watching the woman being taken away. Suddenly, she sucked in a breath and asked the officer, “She… she didn’t show up because of me, did she?”
The officer nodded. “The man you subdued was the first to target you—he followed you all the way. Once he figured out your personality, they staged a scene to draw you in.”
Su Qinghu’s mind was full of “What the hell?” She turned to look for the little girl around the corner, but she was gone.
She asked, “Was that little girl with them?”
“No, she wasn’t. The man lured her over with candy, but she wasn’t part of their group.”
Su Qinghu was speechless. So being good-looking could even attract criminals…
Yuan Hang and Sister Li couldn’t help but laugh at her complicated expression. Yuan Hang tried to comfort her, “Even human traffickers think you’re good-looking.”
“Gee, thanks!” Su Qinghu glared at him. “Is that something you should say?”
Couldn’t he see she was scared?
“Officer, could you quietly find that little girl and give her a lesson on safety?” Su Qinghu was genuinely angry. She’d finally done a good deed at the end of the year, only to fall into someone else’s trap…
Anyone would be frustrated!
The police nodded, of course.
Su Qinghu looked at Yuan Hang and Sister Li, having lost all interest in shopping. “Let’s go back to the guesthouse. I need to be alone for a while.”
“Where are you staying?” The officer, realizing they weren’t locals or working here, asked.
Su Qinghu immediately became wary. “Officer, please don’t scare me—I’m easily frightened!”
Why was he asking that? Did the gang have more accomplices?
The officer understood her concern and smiled. “I can’t tell you the details for now, but don’t worry. You’ll be safe until you leave the city.”
So they’d have people watching her, hoping to catch more criminals?
Seeing Su Qinghu’s speechless, incredulous, and hesitant expression, Yuan Hang burst out laughing, and even the officer left to keep them company had a smile in his eyes.
Su Qinghu thought: Is this… entrapment?
When they were escorted back to the guesthouse, the front desk was shocked. Once they realized it wasn’t their guests in trouble, and the guesthouse wasn’t involved, they finally relaxed.
Standing upstairs, Su Qinghu watched the officers leave and said to Sister Li, “Didn’t they say they’d guarantee our safety? Now they’re gone—how are we supposed to be safe?”
Sister Li chuckled. “If they don’t pretend to leave, how can they set a trap?”
“Li Jie,” Su Qinghu turned to her, sighing, “You’ve gotten sly, you know that?”
Sister Li sighed. “Honestly, if Yuan Hang and I had run into this, we’d have done the same as you. You don’t need to blame yourself.”
Su Qinghu’s smile faded, and she frowned. “I’m not blaming myself. I’m just thinking—if I had to do it over, what would I choose in that situation?”
“What would you choose?” Sister Li asked.
Su Qinghu replied, “I’d use what’s at hand—and call the police.”
“…” Sister Li had thought she’d be debating whether to intervene or not. Her mind blanked for a second before she caught up. “What do you mean, use what’s at hand?”
“Pay for peace,” Su Qinghu said seriously. “Give a big bill to whoever catches the man, and five yuan to whoever gets the police here fastest.”
Sister Li: “…”
That answer was so perfect her head was buzzing!
She had to admit, it really was the perfect solution. A big bill—if you bought cheaper rice, it’d feed a family of five for a month. Seven or eight mao for a pack of cigarettes, you could buy a dozen packs.
Who’d pass up a deal like that?
But—
Sister Li shook her head. “That approach doesn’t work for most people.”
Who would be so generous to help a stranger? Probably only this one in front of her.
Su Qinghu finished, then laughed, cupping her face and leaning close to Sister Li. “Li Jie, look at my face—do you think anyone would risk it again for me?”
She was just joking, but Sister Li took it seriously, studying her for a moment before replying, “I think it’s fifty-fifty.”
Su Qinghu had striking bone structure, delicate skin, lively eyes with long, trailing corners, and an aura that felt both ahead of and perfectly suited to the times—a face you couldn’t forget.
“Hahaha!” Su Qinghu was amused by Sister Li’s unintentional flattery. “Li Jie, I accept your compliment!”
What Su Qinghu didn’t know was that the two men and the woman had originally planned to accuse her of being a runaway educated youth who didn’t respect her elders, then drag her away by force.
Who could have guessed that as soon as they got close, Su Qinghu started fighting without a word, not giving them a chance to say anything.
She was downright fierce!
After the interrogation, the team leader in charge of the case couldn’t stop laughing. He told his team to keep questioning the woman, changed out of his uniform, and left the station.
At the train station, he picked up his friend and couldn’t resist telling him the story—not the case itself, but the unusual events.
“Chen Lie, you wouldn’t believe it. She’s the toughest fighter I’ve ever seen among regular people—and the key is, she’s not just good-looking, she’s stunning. The kind of person you’d never believe could fight like that.”
“She had a strong-looking male reporter with her. If we hadn’t shown up, that group would have pinned him down.”
Chen Lie paused, listening intently. “Reporter?”
“What, you think you know them?” The team leader stroked his chin. “Could be—they had a bit of a Beijing accent.”
“The pretty one you mentioned—” Chen Lie hesitated, “Does she have long hair? Very fair skin, likes to smile, and speaks a bit… a bit…”
He couldn’t think of the right word and got stuck.
The team leader said, “Long hair, big waves, really striking eyes, long eye corners…”
He went on for a bit, then slapped his forehead. “Oh, right! I just remembered—her friend called her Xiao Su on the way back to the guesthouse.”
Chen Lie: “…”
“Really, I just remembered!” The team leader raised his hand. “I swear, I’m not lying. I didn’t escort her back myself, and her friend barely spoke on the way, so no one dared joke around.”
“The guesthouse address?” Chen Lie was now almost certain it was Su Qinghu.
But when he’d left, Su Qinghu didn’t have big waves in her hair, and the fighting skills she used were the ones he’d taught her…"
