Chapter 38: Chapter 38: Who Would Complain About Having Too Much Money?
Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure
The six Yu brothers quickly ran inside.
“Grandma, Xiao Liu said there are some really tasty groundcherries. Where are they?”
It was Yu Wei who spoke. As soon as he finished, he spotted the four baskets overflowing with groundcherries and his jaw dropped in surprise.
He was always running around outside, and it wasn’t like he’d never found groundcherries before.
But there were a lot of kids in the village, and everyone was always running around. Whenever they saw something edible, sometimes they’d pick it before it was even fully ripe just to get a taste.
Even if you were lucky and managed to pick a dozen or twenty, once you split them among a group of kids, getting two each was already pretty good.
But seeing four whole baskets piled high right in front of them, and being told they could eat as much as they wanted—that was something that had never happened before.
Seeing the six of them standing there frozen, Xu Shuhua urged them on, “What are you staring at? Hurry up and eat!”
Groundcherries weren’t anything rare, and even if the kids ate all four baskets, Xu Shuhua wouldn’t feel the least bit sorry.
Yu Wei had just eaten one when he couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow, this is delicious! Grandma, where did you pick these? How come I’ve never found groundcherries this tasty before?”
Xu Shuhua shot him a glare. “Can’t even keep your mouth shut while eating! Aren’t there enough here for you? Still want to go looking for more?”
Yu Wei wasn’t the least bit scared by Xu Shuhua’s scolding.
He’d grown up knowing what kind of temper she had. He’d heard this kind of talk so many times, he was used to it by now.
Not just Yu Wei, the eldest—even the youngest, Yu Gang, was already used to it.
As for the very youngest, Yu Nuannuan, she didn’t need to get used to it.
Xu Shuhua would never scold her.
Chen Qiaoqin used a big basket and made two trips to carry all the branches and leaves out to the backyard, spreading them out under the sun to dry.
When she came back inside and saw the six Yu brothers happily eating, she didn’t ask any questions and finally felt relieved.
Kids couldn’t sit still for long. Once the Yu brothers had eaten their fill, they all dashed back outside to play.
Once they were gone, Chen Qiaoqin moved closer to Xu Shuhua and asked, “Mom, how did business go today?”
Xu Shuhua raised her eyebrows proudly. “What do you think? Of course I sold everything! Made over twenty yuan!”
After yesterday’s windfall of more than eighty yuan, Chen Qiaoqin was much calmer seeing today’s twenty-something.
“Oh right, Mom, look at all these groundcherries left. Do you think we could take them to the county and sell them too?”
After all, the six Yu brothers were just kids—they couldn’t eat that much. Not to mention the three untouched baskets, even the one they’d started on was still mostly full.
There had to be dozens of jin left!
Xu Shuhua was tempted, but a bit uncertain. “Just these groundcherries? They grow everywhere—every kid around here has eaten them. Would anyone actually buy them?”
Chen Qiaoqin shifted a bit. “Mom, sure, they’re nothing special here in our village—every kid’s had them. But it’s different in the county, right? How many people there have ever been to the countryside? Some of them might not have even seen these before, let alone tasted them.”
Of course, that last bit was a bit of an exaggeration.
But what Chen Qiaoqin said made sense.
Xu Shuhua thought for a moment, then said softly, “How about we try this afternoon?”
Chen Qiaoqin nodded eagerly. “Let’s try! Let’s try!”
If they could sell them, wouldn’t that be another source of income?
No matter how small, money is still money—who would ever complain about having too much?
