Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Out of Sight, Out of Mind

Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure

With Xu Shuhua taking the lead, the others snapped out of their daze as well. One by one, they picked up their chopsticks and started stuffing pieces of pork belly into their mouths.

The oily pork belly melted as soon as it touched their tongues, its delicious flavor sliding down their throats and filling their stomachs—and their hearts—with satisfaction.

The pork belly was just too good. It was so fragrant that no one wanted to speak, afraid that talking would slow down their eating.

Xu Shuhua had bought two jin of meat, but Chen Qiaoqin wasn’t about to stew it all in one meal. She only sliced up one jin, leaving the rest in the kitchen.

Even with the meat sliced thin, one jin wasn’t enough for the whole family of more than a dozen people. After everyone had eaten about three pieces each, only the eggplant was left in the bowl.

But no one minded. The eggplant had soaked up all the meaty flavor, and tasted just as good as the pork itself.

In fact, some secretly thought the eggplant tasted even better than the pork belly.

This was the quietest meal the Yu family had ever had. Aside from Xu Shuhua’s opening remark, not a word was spoken—the whole meal was eaten in silence.

It wasn’t until the dish was scraped clean and everyone put down their chopsticks that voices returned to the table.

Yu Hai rubbed his stomach. “Why do I feel like I’m still not full?”

Xu Shuhua shot him a look. “You? Not full? You ate three steamed buns! Aren’t you afraid you’ll burst?”

She’d seen it clearly: after the last of the eggplant was gone, Yu Hai had torn up a bun and soaked it in the sauce, eating like he hadn’t had a meal in ages.

Even though he was her son, Xu Shuhua couldn’t help but feel a little disgusted.

Yu Hai scratched his nose and grinned sheepishly. “Mom, how about we have the rest of the meat for lunch tomorrow?”

“We bought it to eat, so let’s not wait for lunch. I’ll stew it for breakfast. Eat your fill so you have energy to work in the fields!”

“Alright! Don’t worry, Mom. With two meals of meat to keep us going, we’ll have the crops in the field harvested in no time!”

Yu Nuannuan leaned against Chen Qiaoqin, listening to Yu Hai and Xu Shuhua talk, her little face full of unhappiness.

It wasn’t that she was greedy—it was just that the food smelled too good!

Besides, before she transmigrated, she’d been living through the apocalypse and hadn’t had meat in ages.

It had already been half a year since she arrived here, and she still hadn’t eaten any meat.

Now, watching everyone eat meat right in front of her, with the aroma wafting over, who wouldn’t want some?

Yu Nuannuan stifled a yawn and made up her mind: tomorrow she’d sleep in and only get up after they’d finished eating.

Out of sight, out of mind!

Xu Shuhua was about to say something else when she caught sight of Yu Nuannuan yawning. She quickly stood up. “Nuannuan, are you sleepy? Come on, Grandma will take you to bed!”

As she spoke, Xu Shuhua reached out to pick up Yu Nuannuan.

Chen Qiaoqin was a bit puzzled. Usually, when Nuannuan was sleepy, her mother-in-law would just tell her to take Nuannuan to bed herself.

Even though she didn’t understand, Chen Qiaoqin didn’t say anything. She handed Yu Nuannuan over to Xu Shuhua and went off to clean up the dishes with her three sisters-in-law.

When Chen Qiaoqin finished tidying up and returned to her room, she saw Xu Shuhua and Yu Hai sitting across from each other, both staring intently at Yu Nuannuan.

Seeing this, Chen Qiaoqin’s heart skipped a beat. “Mom, Hai, what’s going on?”

Yu Hai turned around, his face barely able to contain his excitement. “Qiaoqin, close the door!”

Chen Qiaoqin did as she was told, quickly walking over to sit down. “What’s happened?”"
