Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Keep It to Ourselves

Reborn in the 1980s Becoming the Group's Darling Little Lucky Treasure

As soon as he heard it had something to do with Nuanbao, Yu Hai, who had just been feeling drowsy, immediately sat up straight. “What? Did something happen to Nuanbao?”

Chen Qiaoqin realized the two of them had misunderstood, but she didn’t know how to explain, so she simply pulled a seed out of her pocket. “Look at this!”

As she spoke, Chen Qiaoqin placed the seed in Yu Nuannuan’s palm.

Yu Nuannuan felt a bit helpless at Chen Qiaoqin’s actions, but she was even more helpless when it came to the strange power inside her.

Almost the moment the seed landed in her palm, her ability activated on its own.

The four of them—eight eyes in total—watched in astonishment as the seed sprouted, grew, flowered, and finally bore fruit right before their eyes.

This time, it wasn’t a chive seed, but an eggplant seed.

When Chen Qiaoqin was cooking lunch, she’d noticed that the eggplant was getting a bit old. Remembering Yu Nuannuan’s special ability, she’d picked out a few seeds and put them in her pocket.

Eggplants were much bigger than chives, and Yu Nuannuan’s small hands could barely hold one.

After the eggplant seed sprouted and grew, Chen Qiaoqin had to support it with her hand. Otherwise, before it even flowered and bore fruit, it would have fallen to the ground because Yu Nuannuan couldn’t hold it up.

This eggplant plant grew exceptionally well, almost as tall as Yu Nuannuan herself, with ten eggplants hanging from it.

Here, people usually ate green-skinned eggplants. Though they’d seen some families grow pretty big ones, none of them had ever seen eggplants as huge as these.

Each eggplant was as big as Yu Nuannuan’s head. Yu Nuannuan wasn’t exactly small for her age, but compared to this eggplant plant, she really looked tiny.

Because the eggplants were so big, Chen Qiaoqin was already struggling to hold them up with one hand. “Dahai! What are you staring at? Hurry up and take this!”

Yu Hai, who was still dumbfounded, snapped out of it at her words, muttered a couple of “oh, oh”s, and hurriedly reached out to help.

Xu Shuhua also came back to her senses. “What… what’s going on here?”

Chen Qiaoqin was grinning from ear to ear and whispered, “Mom, our Nuanbao is a fairy!”

“……”

Xu Shuhua took a deep breath to calm herself down a little. “How did you find out? Does anyone else know about this?”

“I haven’t told anyone! Only the three of us know! Oh, wait, Daibao saw it too. I found out this morning when I was picking chives…”

Chen Qiaoqin recounted everything that had happened that morning, then broke into a wide smile again. “Mom, Dahai, don’t you think our Nuanbao is a fairy? If she’s not a fairy, how could she have such an amazing ability?”

Yu Hai also thought Chen Qiaoqin made sense and nodded eagerly. “She must be a fairy, no doubt about it! Mom, our family is raising a little fairy!”

Xu Shuhua was delighted too. After waiting so many years, she finally had a soft, sweet granddaughter—and now it turned out she was a little fairy as well.

But as happy as she was, Xu Shuhua didn’t forget the important matter at hand.

“Old Four, Qiaoqin, let me tell you both—this has to stay between us. Not a word to anyone else, understand?”

What if outsiders found out they had a little fairy at home and tried to take her away?

You can never know what’s in someone’s heart. What if someone with bad intentions tried to harm Nuanbao?

Just thinking about it made Xu Shuhua want to sew Yu Hai and Chen Qiaoqin’s mouths shut.

Chen Qiaoqin and Yu Hai nodded quickly. “Don’t worry, Mom. We’ll never tell a soul. Not even in our dreams would we let a word slip.”"
