Chapter 88: Unpleasant Retribution of Karma
I Farm In The Apocalypse
Whenever this topic came up, Jing’s father felt a bit embarrassed. Reflecting on Jing Zhao’s sarcastic demand for money, he said, "The pigs were brought by Jing Shu. Now, all these matters are decided by Jing Shu."
Second Aunt Jing Zhao shifted her gaze to Jing Shu, as if she were eyeing a delicious braised pork rib. She eagerly reached out to grab Jing Shu’s hand, but Jing Shu dodged. Unfazed, Jing Zhao continued her request:
"Jing Shu, please give Aunt a pig. When you were in trouble, Aunt also helped you out financially."
"Aunt, when Grandma called to remind you to stock up on grains, you said you also wanted to store more because you were really short on money. After the call, I returned the money to you. The money you helped us with wasn't even used, so how can you say you helped us out?"
Jing Shu calmly replied, "We still owe Second Aunt 100,000 yuan and my Uncle 100,000 yuan. It’s just right to offset each debt with one pig. If I give you a pig, what do I use to offset my debt? Besides, we don’t owe you anything anymore. Why should we give you a pig? Or what would you exchange it for?"
Second Aunt was left speechless, instantly regretting her actions. If she had known earlier, she would have held back. Now, she had received hundreds of jin of black pigs—fresh pork that could be traded for thousands of jin of grain, enough for a family to eat for months! She hadn’t eaten meat for half a year!
Thinking of Dongpo's braised pork, she drooled. What was she thinking, demanding money? She was just afraid that her biological mother would play favorites and worry that Jing An wouldn’t repay the money, so she hurriedly asked for help. Look at Jing Pan—her husband had borrowed ten thousand yuan, and now she was receiving a pregnant sow in return!
Li Yun coughed, "Aunt, why don’t you wait until your pig gives birth and let us have some piglets?"
Jing Pan remained silent. Wei Chang, Jing Pan’s husband, spoke calmly, "Do you even know how to raise pigs? High temperatures are a problem, as are low temperatures. Does your home have air conditioning to keep the pigs at a stable temperature? Do you have wheat bran or grains to feed them? Do you have a bucket of water each day to feed the pigs?"
Li Yun awkwardly bowed his head. Jing Zhao couldn’t get pigs from either side and was visibly upset.
Wei Chang added, "Alright, once we slaughter the pigs, we’ll send some meat your way."
Only then did he manage to placate the two unexpected guests. In his mind, Wei Chang thought, "These pigs will be treated like ancestors. I probably won’t slaughter them; you’ll just have to wait until the next life."
At the same time, Wei Chang decided to build a good relationship with Jing Shu’s family, hoping to breed pigs next year. He realized today that Jing Shu had become formidable compared to her former simplicity. Now, her family was the one in charge.
Aunt Jing Pan was fine now, and Jing Shu’s family was ready to leave. Wei Chang went to the cellar to get some vermicelli, took out as many apples as he could, but Jing Shu didn’t take any. Finally, he couldn’t resist taking some frozen autumn pears buried in the ground—dark and ready to thaw and eat, tasting excellent.
In her previous life, Jing Shu couldn’t afford such luxuries, but in this life, she wouldn’t compromise. She refused to eat anything that didn’t taste good.
Li Yun stared at the energy car with glowing eyes, wanting to borrow it for a few days, but Jing Shu directly refused. He then tried to ask Jing Shu to drive them back to the city, but she declined again.
The two of them had made the car smell awful, and Li Yun’s foot odor was so bad that Jing Shu wished she could stay three zhang (about 10 meters) away from him.
"You come here and leave the same way you came. We’re in a hurry and have things to do," Jing Shu said.
"Oh, Jing Shu, you’ve become so capable, haven’t you? Have you forgotten what happened when we were kids?" Li Yun, frustrated by repeated refusals, finally seized the moment when the adults were talking and rushed over to punish Jing Shu.
Jing Shu swept her leg, tripping Li Yun so hard he fell face-first into the cement ground with a thud. In pain, Li Yun let out a scream, and the adults inside the house rushed out upon hearing the noise.
Jing Shu innocently pointed at Li Yun, "He fell too fast."
"Seriously, you need to pay more attention."
"You're all grown up. Learn from Wei Zheng who helps the family."
…
Li Yun gritted his teeth, clenching his fists without saying a word, staring at Jing Shu with hatred. Jing Shu took out a bottle of Wahaha AD Calcium Milk and began to gulp it down, saying, "See, when we were kids, you always stole my AD Calcium Milk. From now on, you can’t steal it anymore. If you try again, I’ll beat you up."
Even though Li Yun was in his twenties, he couldn’t stop swallowing his saliva. Remembering the taste of AD Calcium Milk made him crave it intensely. After half a year without meat or vegetables, only white rice was left for him, and now he saw insects and craved them!
He limped to his feet, his knee badly cut open and his ankle swollen from Jing Shu’s kicks.
"Is this woman a monster?! Such strength."
He had seen Jing Shu kill with a gun before, but he didn’t expect her to become so ruthless and aggressive towards her own family.
In front of the hateful Li Yun, Jing Shu drank bottle after bottle of AD Calcium Milk until she finished the third one before stepping out and getting back into the car. Her family bid farewell, getting into the car and driving away, tossing empty bottles out the window.
Li Yun hesitated for a long time before picking up a bottle. He took a lick and realized the taste was off—the strong stench indicated someone had mixed pig feces into it!
"Ugh!" Li Yun started vomiting as a message popped up on his WeChat from Jing Shu: "The way you treated me when we were kids is how I’ll repay you."
His memories resurfaced—how he and his friends had once stolen Jing Shu’s AD Calcium Milk, adding ants into it. When Jing Shu opened the bottle, ants crawled out, and she had cried herself to the ground, scraping her knee.
Today felt like complete retribution—or rather, tenfold retribution!
"AD Calcium Milk, full of memories," Jing Shu thought as she squinted her eyes.
…
Upon returning home, Jing Shu brought the other pig to Third Aunt Jing Lai to offset her debt. Third Aunt refused to take it outright, but after some discussion, they decided to keep the pig in the villa. When needed, they would all slaughter it together.
Jing Lai thought grain was now scarce, and she felt embarrassed having dinner with her daughter at Jing Shu’s house. Although they had bought over ten bags of rice and brought in marinated meat from the slaughterhouse daily, it still counted as freeloading. Thus, they took the pig back to offset it.
Wu Youai hurried over, "Do you need anything else recently?"
Jing Shu thought for a moment and shook her head.
"If you still need something, let me know. I’ll get it from my mentor."
The other pig was also sent to her Uncle. While planning to deliver it one day, chaotic Wucheng finally announced a new policy to provide free food.
Wang Qiqi, Unit 13: "@everyone, the government has canceled water trucks. Starting every morning at 5 AM, you can go to the newly established government points to collect a day’s worth of cooked food and water!
Each person can claim one portion by scanning their ID card. The news says free cooked food will be provided until the artificial sun is completed! Our neighborhood’s nearest point is still 7 kilometers away at Aijia Supermarket!"
"But @everyone, please note the collection rules: there should be no records of robbery or murder. From now on, if anyone commits robbery or murder and gets caught with a record, they won’t be able to receive food! The turmoil in Wucheng will come to an end!"
