Chapter 78: Who Doesn't Have a Gun?
I Farm In The Apocalypse
"...do you understand what it feels like to be in unbearable pain?" Major Yang deliberately drew out his words, observing the pale and sweating Big Sun with a satisfied smirk.
He pulled out a syringe and slowly started drawing water from a mineral water bottle, then methodically injected it into Big Sun's body.
"Don't know yet? Hmm?"
As the third syringe was injected, Big Sun began to howl. Soon, his tears, snot, and drool mingled as he succumbed to the excruciating pain and quickly confessed everything.
Jing Shu shivered as she watched; she knew of this notorious method used surreptitiously by police on suspects. It was simple, excruciatingly painful, and left no marks—a brutal interrogation technique derived from a black market practice of injecting water into cattle to increase their sale weight.
Major Yang tapped his boot rhythmically on Big Sun’s neck, pondering for a moment before asking, "Where’s the gun he gave you?"
Under the pressure, Jing Shu sighed internally, "It’s with me."
For the first time, Major Yang seriously looked at Jing Shu. Aside from her obvious beauty, there didn’t seem to be anything particularly extraordinary about her. Was this the same woman who single-handedly orchestrated the death of several dozen men?
"What about the rest of 'Day Barrier'?" he inquired, as the scene only had a handful of bodies.
Jing Shu led him to the pit traps around the doorway, causing even the hardened military police to gasp in shock. Their gaze towards Jing Shu shifted markedly.
"There are about forty others guarding other buildings. They probably scattered when they heard the police sirens."
Gou Yi Tian, witnessing the solidification of Jing Shu's murderous deeds, frantically shouted, "Officers, you see, she killed so many people. You must arrest her!"
"Please, we’re military police, not regular police. This area isn’t under our jurisdiction. If you want someone arrested, call the civil police," Major Yang scoffed dismissively.
Desperate, Gou Yi Tian pleaded, "Then take me with you. Lock me up anywhere, just away from this madwoman! She’s going to torture and kill me!"
Ignoring him, Major Yang turned back to Jing Shu, "We’ll take this leader with us. The gun is your trophy; we won’t interfere with that. As for the rest of 'Day Barrier,' we're not interested. If you have nothing else for us, we’ll be leaving."
"Wait," Jing Shu’s mother interjected, rushing back from the house with boxes of fresh vegetables. "You’ve come all this way; please take some fresh produce back with you. We really appreciate you coming out here."
Surprised and hesitant, Major Yang looked to Commissioner Niú for guidance.
Commissioner Niú chuckled, "Take it. It’s the least we can do after all the trouble you’ve gone through. Consider it a separate favor from your official duties."
"With the situation here, not much help was needed from us today. Next time you need something, just call me directly," Major Yang said, accepting the gesture as a form of informal alliance and gratitude.
After the police left as quickly as they had arrived, Jing Shu’s mother remarked, "In times of crisis, we can only rely on ourselves. If we had waited for their help, we might not have survived."
Determined, Jing Shu’s mother decided they needed to strengthen their defenses and not always rely on Jing Shu. "Starting tomorrow, except for grandma, everyone will practice with the crossbow to prevent such incidents. We’ll also carry knives at all times."
"And most importantly," Jing Shu added, "we need to upgrade our traps—they need to be more lethal and twisted."
With the surveillance still active and the traps reset, the family spent a restless night in the villa, preparing for whatever might come next.
The next day, the real work began. "This net trap is too gentle," Jing Shu mused. "I'm thinking of using a steel plate with densely welded spikes. If it falls from above, it could impale intruders on the spot. It would also save us the trouble of reloading arrows."
