Chapter 47: Chapter 47

I Farm and Plant Trees in the Global Game

One silver coin wasn’t a trivial amount for many, but after the recent zombie horde, quite a few people could afford it.

“So that’s why we couldn’t get quests from other NPCs—the apocalypse game’s quest system is here!” Li Wei’s eyes lit up at the mention of commission quests.

He immediately decided to represent the mountaineering club’s team and give it a try.

Other teams weren’t as obsessed with quests as Li Wei, but the news about adventurer teams piqued their interest, and they each chose a representative to register.

For example, Nie Ying from the women’s team, and Huo Shaobai from the former Binhai Safe Zone team.

Mu Ying was the only one registering as an individual.

She stepped forward mainly because she saw Li Wei, the first to register, receive a wooden token.

The token looked a bit like the Lord’s Order or the Universal Trial Token. As soon as he got it, it turned into a beam of light and disappeared. Mu Ying guessed it had merged into the player’s handbook.

After paying 1 silver coin, Mu Ying also received her own wooden token. Just as she expected, it unlocked a new page in her player’s handbook.

“Once you’ve registered, you can head upstairs to the quest hall,” Kaina said, pointing to a nearby door.

The newly registered group went upstairs and found a hall much like the one below.

Behind the counter stood another girl who looked almost identical to Kaina, though her workspace was a bit larger.

“Welcome to the Mercenary Guild. I’m Kelly, manager of the quest hall.”

“Please materialize your mercenary ID and insert it into the quest compass to accept quests.”

Kelly pointed to several floating disks in the hall.

“Um, if you don’t mind me asking, are you and Kaina twins?” Li Wei asked curiously.

“Yes, I’m the older sister!” Kelly winked.

Li Wei’s face instantly turned bright red.

Mu Ying shook her head and walked to one of the quest compasses. Sure enough, there was a slot for the ID token.

She materialized her mercenary ID and inserted it.

[F-rank mercenary Mu Ying, welcome to the Qingshan Village Mercenary Quest Platform]

After two notifications, a yellowish light screen appeared in front of her.

She glanced at the others—they had similar screens, but theirs were blank. Clearly, only she could see her own screen.

She looked back. The screen had two options: Accept Quest and Post Quest.

She tapped “Accept Quest,” and a flood of quest information appeared before her eyes."

……

A whole string of collection tasks, all commissioned by shop owners within the territory.

Muying wasn’t very interested in these tasks. The rewards for Grandpa Shaum’s task could be obtained just by using her own identification skill—unless she came across a rare plant, there was no need to compete with others for these opportunities.

As for collecting ingredients or wood, that was even less appealing—time-consuming, labor-intensive, and not much money in it. She’d be better off just planting a few more trees.

Unlike Muying, the others were quite interested in these tasks. They represented teams, so collecting things was easier and more efficient for them. Besides, a stable way to earn money was exactly what they needed right now.

They all accepted the tasks and went out to discuss and report back to their teammates.

………………

Night fell in the blocky world. After hollowing out a mountain, Muying moved her mining operation underground.

She dug layer by layer, determined not to miss a single piece of ore.

After digging more than ten layers down, she started to find iron ore.

Upgrading her gear, she switched to iron tools and even made herself a set of chainmail armor.

As she was mining today, she suddenly heard a strange sound.

She stopped what she was doing and listened carefully. It sounded like some kind of beast roaring.

Why did it sound so familiar?

After thinking for a while, Muying exclaimed, “It’s a zombie!”

On her first day in the block world, that’s exactly what the zombies sounded like at night.

“Are there zombies around here?”
